Hello everyone! It has been a long since we last updated this lounge.
This article is to give ideas on how the interview for a law degree in UiTM Shah Alam were usually conducted, and I hope it could help the newcomers to picture the real situation and get prepared.
In 2018, which is before the pandemic, I had the chance to experience the physical interview for a law degree in UiTM Shah Alam and it was the first interview I ever had. The students that applied through ‘penerapan’ UiTM and UPU will be given an offer letter to attend an interview on the date and time that have been set up for them. We were divided into three groups which were in accordance with the interview rooms that had been arranged for us. I got to be in the third group and the interview was conducted at Cempaka 3 which is near the gazebo in front of the Academic Affairs office. Around five to four students will be called to enter the room at one time, and it will be in accordance with the sequence in the name list.
This is somehow a relief as we did not have to face the three or four interviewers alone. The interview was held for two to three days and it was divided into two sessions which are in the morning and evening. So, you might not get the chance to be there with your friends if their interview is scheduled in the evening or on the next day. My interview was on the morning of the first day of the interview but lucky that my name was not on top of the list. It was definitely a waiting game for a name that starts with S, but to look on the bright side, I got a lot of time to read, ask around and eat. If you guys are planning to come early and have breakfast at the campus, there is a cafeteria in Cempaka 1.
The common question that was frequently asked by the interviewer is of course ‘tell me about yourself. Your answer can be short and brief only as they just want to see us introduce ourselves. There will be a law-related question and we are allowed to choose any one law subject that we have learnt during foundation or a subject that we are confident to answer. However, as for students who came from different backgrounds besides law or do not have any basis in law subject, different sets of questions will be asked in order to assess them.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic has changed many things in our lives over the past several months, I was informed that the faculty had conducted a virtual interview where the format of the interview will require the students to submit a 3-minute video prior to the interview session that has been set up in the offer letter. Then you need to submit the video via an email that the faculty has provided, and its content must consist of an introduction about yourselves and a brief discussion or opinion on any recent issue. One or two weeks later, the faculty will send a document that contains the link for the online interview as well as the time and date of the meeting. Even though it is a virtual interview, the format or arrangement for the interview does not change a lot. The number of students in one meeting remained to be four to five people and three panels will interview them at one time. It will take about 3 to 4 days to finish the whole interview. The panels will ask the students to explain further about their 3 minutes video and followed by a law relating question that the students may choose its subject which can either be torts, criminal or contract (those that they have learnt throughout their foundation). On a side note, other questions after the legal question might vary according to the panels themselves.
I know this isn't much but I hope it helped you nevertheless. Goodluck!
