If you are a UiTMLaw student, you should know by now that you will have to undergo industrial training for 4-5weeks. It is basically an internship. You can either do it before Sem 4 or before Sem 5.
But, one question would often come to our minds, where is the best place to do your internship? Does it have to be courts or firms only? Well, we are here to give you some ideas and insights. Actually, there are many other places for you to undergo your internship. It usually depends on which career path you choose. Do you wish you be an in-house counsel? Or a criminal litigator? Or go into Government Services?
We have gathered some of our friends who had their internship at various places to share with you a bit of their internship experience in a few short videos. We hope that this would help you in choosing an internship place that best suits you because an internship is fairly important for you to gain experience and knowledge relevant to your future career.
First, we have Nadia who had her internship at the High Court.
Next, we have Farah Afifa to share with us her experience at the AGC! AGC is a popular choice to do your internship at, but is it as exciting as we expected it to be?
You can also read more on her experience at the AGC through Farah's website HERE!
(By the way, you could also go to Pejabat Penasihat Undang-Undang Negeri in your states. It is under AGC and should have about the same procedure and scheme of work.)
Then, we have Zahid who shared what it's like being part of the legal team at a public listed company, Damansara Holdings Berhad. Corporate internship could be your go-to if you are planning to be an in-house counsel in the future.
Next, we have our dear friend, former Vice President of ALSA has honoured us with his experience at one of the top law firms in Malaysia, Azmi & Associates.
But does that mean, you won't get as much exposure if you don't go to big firms? Ainan is here to deny that! She went to a medium-sized firm and she still learned a lot.
People rarely choose to intern at the Legal Aid Department/Jabatan Bantuan Guaman because it was underrated and not a lot of people know that you can do your intern there. Luckily, our Treasurer, Munirah Arshad did her internship there and she’s here to share how it’s like.
Did you know that you can even undergo your internship at the police station? Ikmal Iqbal did, and let’s see how it was!
From all these videos, you could see that it doesn't matter where you did your intern at, you can still learn a lot as long as you have the willingness to learn. And there are a lot of other decent places for you to gain knowledge if you didn't get accepted to your dream firm or intern place.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us or contact any of our friends from the video! We have included their social media in the video for your reference.
Lastly, thank you for watching and good luck with your internship! Stay safe and take care.
Cheers!
